You can book a taxi in Montenegro for a short ride around the city, a transfer from the airport to your hotel, or a guided tour. Before traveling, it's worth knowing how to recognize a legitimate taxi, where to book a ride, and what the price includes.

In this guide you will find prices for transfers from Podgorica and Tivat, contacts to local companies, and practical tips on applications, payments, car seats, and luggage.

How much does a taxi cost in Montenegro and how is the price calculated?

You will determine the cost of the trip based on the tariff of a specific carrier or the quote for the ordered transfer.

With a taximeter, the starting fare, mileage rate, and time calculation are all important. For a fixed-price transfer, you must specify the vehicle, route, and additional services included in the price.

If you're requesting airport pickup, please provide your hotel, number of passengers, and luggage. Add a car seat, stroller, or planned stopover, if needed. This allows the carrier to price the entire trip, and you can compare offers based on the same conditions.

The entry fee and the minimum rate mean different things

The initial fare is part of the fare, and the minimum fare determines the lowest fare. If the price list specifies a minimum, don't automatically add it to the mileage price. Adding the minimum to the mileage price could inflate your estimate.

A good example is the published price list of Best Taxi in Podgorica : €0.60/km , minimum ride €1 , and waiting time €0.15/min . The company declares a single tariff for 24 hours, but does not clearly indicate its validity date. [5] This is an offer from one company, read during price list verification.

When inquiring with another operator, separate the three questions: the initial fee, the mileage, and the time calculation. This will give you the data you need for comparison, rather than trying to reconstruct your entire bill from a single rate.

Meter price, estimated price and agreed transfer price

P

When comparing offers, distinguish the method of calculating the amount due from the amount stated in advance. Three terms help determine the settlement rules:

Payment method

What does it mean?

What to establish before the course

Price according to the taximeter

The amount charged during the journey in accordance with the carrier's tariff

Initial fee, mileage, time calculation and surcharges

Estimated price

Estimated cost for the assumed travel assumptions

What can change the final bill?

Agreed transfer price

Amount accepted for a specific route and scope of service

Address, car, luggage, stops and waiting conditions

When billing by taximeter, kilometers alone may not be sufficient to calculate the bill. The amount displayed in the app must also be interpreted according to the selected trip: it may be an estimate or an agreed-upon transfer price.

Ask for a transfer price that includes a child seat, an additional stop, or a second hotel if needed. Discuss the cost of changing your booking before your trip. We also discuss the conditions under which the fixed taxi price applies in a separate guide.

Separately, check the cost of waiting for a passenger before departure and the time charged during the journey. When picking up from the airport, establish a waiting time limit, the starting time, and the fee for exceeding it. The mileage rate alone doesn't answer these questions.

Night and holiday rates require checking the operator's tariff

Don't automatically apply Polish fare distributions to every company in Montenegro. Ask for a price for a specific date and time, especially for nighttime arrivals or early morning departures.

In the same message, determine whether the company accepts reservations for the specified date.

A known price doesn't mean a confirmed pickup. Before confirming your reservation, please confirm that the company will provide a car for your scheduled time.

What should the transfer price include?

A complete offer is easiest to evaluate when it covers all previously reported needs.

When ordering, specify:

  • airport pickup and possible parking;

  • number and size of suitcases;

  • child seat or other ordered equipment;

  • ferry, tunnel and toll motorway section, if any are on the route;

  • additional address or planned stop;

  • waiting limit upon arrival and the cost of exceeding it.

How to recognize a legal taxi in Montenegro?

Before getting into a taxi, check the signs, price list, and carrier information. The car's make, color, and phone number sticker alone do not confirm eligibility for the ride.

TX plates, TAXI sign, price list and taximeter

Montenegrin regulations for taxis require, among other things, a local license, a TX registration plate with a number , a TAXI sign on the roof, a visible price list, and a functional, secured taximeter. They also stipulate the obligation to activate the taximeter upon initiation of such a journey and issue a receipt.

The mere fact that the vehicle is parked in a parking lot doesn't determine whether the carrier can pick up a passenger from that location. Taxi regulations apply to the licensed area, so when picking up from another location or an airport, ask the company to confirm their eligibility.

Invoice and contractor identification

Keep your receipt, company name, and car registration number. When ordering online, also save your reservation number and fare confirmation. This information will allow you to select a specific ride if you need to leave luggage or clarify a fee. For more ways to verify your vehicle, see our guide on how to check taxi numbers and details .

For private transfers, ask for the provider's details and a document confirming the order. The type of service booked will impact the required labeling; the criteria for a regular taxi should not be applied to any car and driver transfer without further verification.

How to order a taxi in Montenegro?

When ordering, please provide the exact pickup location, destination, time, number of people, and luggage information. For airport transfers, please include your flight number and contact details upon arrival.

Phone, Viber, WhatsApp, app or hotel?

Select the channel indicated by the company: phone, form, app, or messenger. Go Montenegro publishes contact information via phone, Viber, and WhatsApp, while TeslaGoApp allows for in-app ordering. Just having a mobile number on a third-party website doesn't mean they accept orders on both messengers.

Ordering through the hotel reception also requires confirmation of the price, payment, and name of the provider. Ask if the hotel arranges a taxi or a separate transfer. This way, you know who to contact with questions about the car or the invoice.

Full number +382 and internet on your phone

In your contacts, save the full number with the +382 prefix, alongside any local short number. This makes it easier to identify the correct company when using a Polish phone and to share the contact information with fellow passengers. The Podgorica Tourist Board lists both forms for many companies.

Before traveling, check the cost of internet and calls included in your package. Montenegro is not automatically covered by the EU's Roam Like at Home program; the European Commission describes the extension of the rules to the Western Balkans as a negotiating process. It's best to check registration in the app and receive the SMS code before departure.

What to send in a message to the carrier?

When booking, please provide the following information to help you select a car and price the entire service:

Information

What exactly should I enter?

Deadline

date and local time of pickup

Arrival

airport and flight number

Pickup and destination

name of the facility, address, pin on the map

Passengers

number of adults and children

Luggage

number of suitcases, stroller, sports equipment

Car seat

age, height and weight of the child and the required type

Reckoning

full price, currency and payment method

Additional conditions

waiting, cancellation, additional stops

Once you've finalized the details, ask for a booking confirmation and a contact number for the day of your ride. If the company hasn't responded or the app hasn't assigned a driver, check the order status before accepting your ride. If you're requesting a replacement vehicle, cancel the previous request according to its terms.

What phrases will be useful when ordering a taxi?

You can use short questions to determine pricing and settlement:

In Polish

Phrase used locally

How much does it cost to travel to…?

Koliko košta vožnja do…?

Is the price per car or per person?

Did they give it to you per vozilo or in person?

Can I pay by card?

Mogu li platiti karticom?

We need a child seat.

Treba nam dječje sjedište.

I would like the bill, please.

Molim račun.

Do Uber and Bolt operate in Montenegro? What apps and services should I check?

According to information reviewed in October 2026, Uber and Bolt do not offer local rides in Montenegro. Available alternatives include local apps and taxi companies. When searching, be wary of the "Uber in Montenegro" page for Montenegro, Brazil .

MonteGO - What is the difference between Taxi and Transfer?

In the MonteGO app, Taxi and Transfer modes differ in pricing. According to the FAQ, the price in Taxi mode may be adjusted if significant traffic significantly extends the journey; the agreed-upon price in Transfer mode is to remain constant. MonteGO allows payment directly to the driver, either by cash or card; confirm the option to use a card when ordering.

Before ordering with MonteGO, check your chosen mode and driver assignment status. The app's declared coverage does not indicate the waiting time for the car at your location. For airport transfers, also save the provider's contact information outside the app.

TeslaGoApp and corporate apps

TeslaGoApp displays estimated fares, the car's location, and estimated arrival time. It allows you to book a ride immediately or for a later date; the operator also provides notification of ride acceptance. The Podgorica Tourist Board lists this service among its local transportation options.

For a specific company's app, check the operator's name and service city. Before installing, compare the publisher and link with the company's website. Save the phone number in case you have trouble logging in, having an SMS code, or accessing the internet.

GetTransfer, Welcome Pickups, UniTaxi.pl and local transfers

A booking service can act as an intermediary between a passenger and an independent contractor – this model is explicitly described by GetTransfer .

Therefore, look for both the booking number and the details of the company providing the transfer in your confirmation. If your arrival time changes or there's a problem with your pickup, two contact details will be useful: one for the booking service and the other for the driver.

Service

What to check before confirming

GetTransfer

an offer from an independent carrier, full payment and conditions of the selected variant

Welcome Pickups

meeting point, start and waiting time, ordered seat

UniTaxi.pl

price for the date, car class, capacity and luggage

Go Montenegro

fixed price range, flight number, stops and return pick-up

Terrae Car

order confirmation, seat and agreed payment method

Welcome Pickups offers 60 minutes of free waiting time for airport pickups; check your booking to see when this time begins. UniTaxi offers route offers, while Go Montenegro and Terrae Car describe their own transfer services.

Write down the terms and conditions of your booking: vehicle selection, luggage allowance, waiting time, and refund policy. Keep these along with your payment confirmation. A price found for a different date or service option won't clarify the terms of your booking.

When picking up from the station, indicate whether you're looking for a bus or train station and agree on a meeting point. A name or pin at the hotel entrance will be helpful. If you need a larger vehicle, ask about the number of seats and the trunk space the company can provide.

Budva, Bečići, Rafailovići and Sveti Stefan - enter your destination

When requesting a ride to Budva , Bečići , Rafailovići , or Sveti Stefan , provide a specific hotel. For apartments on a slope, ask the host where the car can safely park. Determine if the address provided is also the place where the driver can drop you off.

In Budva, Terrae Car operates a website that describes taxis and transfers. When contacting a local company, be sure to include your return route if your trip ends at a beach or other attraction. The pickup time and point can be arranged before departure.

Kotor, Dobrota, Prčanj and Perast - "Kotor" alone may not be enough

Red Taxi Kotor & Tivat differentiates its pricing between Kotor Old Town, Dobrota, Prčanj, and Perast. Please include your accommodation pin with your quote so the driver knows your exact destination. For accommodations in the historic center, please also specify the closest accessible point.

The operator publishes the numbers 19719 and +382 67 019 719 for Kotor , and 19729 and +382 67 019 729 for Tivat. When choosing a company found under the search term "Red Taxi," pay attention to the city. The Podgorica website redtaxi.me and the seaside website redtaxikotor.com have separate contact details and price lists.

Tivat, Porto Montenegro and Luštica - arrange a meeting point

When picking up in Porto Montenegro, please indicate your hotel or a specific point near the marina. For the journey to Luštica , you'll need a destination, as the peninsula's name doesn't indicate where the driver will be taking you. If your journey requires permission from reception or security, please arrange this with the property before the vehicle arrives.

When leaving, determine immediately whether the driver will pick you up from the building or from the main road. It's worth knowing this point in advance with suitcases to plan your journey and avoid searching for the car upon arrival.

Herceg Novi, Bar and Ulcinj - plan your local trip and return

In Herceg Novi , Bar , and Ulcinj, separate your local transfer request from your airport transfer booking. Please include the neighborhood, beach, or apartment name in your quote. A company number from another city doesn't necessarily indicate whether they will accept short-term bookings at your location.

If you want to return at a fixed time, book a second leg as well. Departure from your hotel and return from a less obvious point may require different meeting points. It's easiest to arrange both locations in advance.

Podgorica Airport Taxi (TGD) - Pick-up, Prices and Alternatives

The Podgorica Airport website lists Zeta Taxi and Vuk BG Taxi and provides their contact information. If booking a transfer with another company, please confirm the pickup option and exact meeting point.

Zeta Taxi and Vuk BG Taxi - Airport Contacts

The contact details published by the airport are +382 67 995 757 for Zeta Taxi and +382 68 666 644 for Vuk BG Taxi. Both operators publish prices with TGD; Vuk BG indicates, among others, €20 to Podgorica and €75 to Budva.

After leaving the hall, check the driver's details and your order. When picking up from the airport, please use the sign. Please confirm your name and travel destination before handing over your baggage. If you have any problems with your meeting, please use the number provided in your confirmation.

Flight number, delay and waiting time

Landing time and the time you leave the terminal with your suitcase are two different times. When booking, provide your flight number and then determine from when the company calculates the free waiting time: from the indicated pickup time, actual arrival, or another time specified in the terms and conditions. This rule allows you to estimate how much time you have for baggage collection and formalities.

Flight tracking is not a substitute for contact after landing. If the plane has landed but your bag hasn't appeared on the conveyor belt, you still need to contact the driver. Let them know you're still waiting for your baggage and arrange a further wait with the driver.

When a flight is rerouted to a different airport, the driver's route also changes. The new location and cost require separate arrangements. Don't assume that your existing booking will include pickup from the alternate airport.

Bus from the terminal and train from the Aerodrom stop

The airport lists a bus stop in front of the terminal and the carriers BTC Zeta , MS Tours , and Zejdin . However, the published timetable is valid until May 31, 2025 , so check the travel times for your date with the operator or in current sales.

The ŽPCG train search engine lists the Aerodrom stop. When planning this option, check the access from the terminal, train times, and the journey from the final station to your accommodation separately. The stop name does not mean you will board the train directly at the airport concourse.

Taxi from Tivat Airport (TIV) - how to get to the hotel?

For Tivat Airport transfer prices, inquire about specific hotels and vehicles. Operators may publish separate prices for destinations in the Bay of Kotor region, even if you search for all offers under the general search term "Tivat–Kotor."

How much does a taxi cost from Tivat airport to Kotor, Budva and other towns?

For apartments outside the Old Town, please provide your exact location for a quote. Also, specify where the transfer will end if you can't drive right up to the building. Arrange assistance with luggage further down the road before booking.

Pick-up from TIV and return to departure

For transfers from Tivat Airport, note the driver's contact information and a meeting point description. If the car is not at your expected location, send a pin of your location or call the dispatcher. Once you've located your driver, compare your booking details before handing over your luggage.

When planning your trip to the airport, start with the time you need to be at the terminal.

Please provide this information to the operator and request a pickup time based on your chosen route and current conditions. If traveling from the Herceg Novi region, also confirm whether the transfer includes a ferry.

The travel time from the map is one element of such a plan. Meeting at the hotel, loading luggage, and stocking up before check-in remain to be determined. Set a departure time for your accommodation and flight.

How to pay for a taxi and how to clarify a disputed bill?

Confirm your payment method before starting your journey. Card payment to the driver, online payment, and prepayment on the booking website are three different payment methods.

Cash in euros, card and prepayment

Zeta Taxi states that payment can be made on-site by cash or card, while Terrae Car describes card payments via a link or at the office, among other options. When using another operator, ask about the specific vehicle and don't assume it has a terminal just because it has a Visa or Mastercard logo on its website.

If part of the ride has been paid in advance, check the receipt for the remaining amount. If paying cash, agree on the total amount before handing over the bill and keep the receipt. Separate any tip from the price of the service.

Unclear price, surcharge or alternative route

If the quote is unclear, ask for clarification before you begin your journey. Determine whether the quote is per car or per passenger, and whether it includes all reported luggage and stops. It's easiest to clarify any changes to the agreed-upon price by comparing the booking confirmation with the actual journey.

If you dispute the issue after you arrive, point out the difference: a higher amount, an additional line item, or a change in service. Ask for an explanation and keep the receipt, payment confirmation, and any correspondence. The license plate number will help link the case to the actual car you were driving.

Complaints, lost items and emergency situations

Send your complaint to the provider, and if booking through the platform, also through their service channel. Provide the ride number, route, date, amount, and desired resolution. If you're reporting a violation of taxi regulations, contact the appropriate supervisory authority in the municipality where the ride took place.

When leaving your phone or luggage in a taxi , provide the dispatcher with a description of the item, the time of the trip, and the drop-off point. The license plate number, order number, and payment confirmation will help identify the vehicle. When picking up the lost item, agree on the location and possible delivery costs.

In case of immediate danger, use 112 or the police number 122. Montenegrin services publish both contact details; these are not hotlines for simply clarifying tariffs.

Taxi with a child, large luggage or in a larger group

Select a car that accommodates both passengers and luggage. In your inquiry, include children, strollers, and any equipment that can't be packed like a regular suitcase.

How to order the right child seat?

When ordering a car seat, please provide the child's age, height, and weight, as well as the required type of restraint. Ask for confirmation of the specific car's equipment and price. Simply stating "traveling with a child" won't tell the driver which car seat to bring.

Car seat reservations are available from companies like Welcome Pickups and Terrae Car ; Terrae Car lists an additional fee. On-site, check the seat's compatibility with the order and its installation. If the company can't provide the necessary equipment, include your own car seat or choose a carrier that will confirm the appropriate model.

5-8 passenger van - how much space will there be for suitcases?

In your van request, separate the number of passengers and luggage. If you're traveling with 8 people , you'll need confirmation of 8 passenger seats (excluding the driver) and space for all your belongings. The name "van" doesn't indicate how much space will be left for suitcases when the seats are occupied. We also demonstrate this issue in our comparison of XL and minibus rides in Poland ; the applications and conditions described there apply to the Polish market.

An example request might be: "We're traveling with seven people, five large suitcases, three cabin suitcases, and a foldable stroller." This description provides the company with much more information than "I'd like a minibus." This is a sample request; the company needs to confirm that they have a vehicle that can accommodate the group and their luggage.

For oddly shaped equipment, dimensions or a photo of the package will be helpful. If two cars are needed, it's worth finding out the cost when booking. At the airport, all passengers and suitcases must fit in the provided cars.

Wheelchairs, Pets and Sports Equipment

When transporting a wheelchair user, specify whether the passenger will be transferring to a car seat or traveling in their own wheelchair. If the latter is the case, ask for confirmation of the vehicle's suitability, access, and attachment points. Airport assistance does not automatically provide a taxi with a ramp.

When transporting a pet, please include its size and carrier information. For bicycles, skis, or water sports equipment, provide the packed dimensions. For example, GetTransfer recommends specifying the size and number of pieces of luggage in the order so that contractors can select a vehicle. [1]

Intercity and international transfers – what should you arrange before booking?

Cross-border transfers require you to specify all countries on your route and confirm pickup and drop-off conditions. In your request, separate the transfer to the city from the airport of the same name.

Dubrovnik and DBV Airport – Two Different Destinations

When booking a transfer to Dubrovnik, specify whether you're looking for the city or the DBV airport in Čilipi . Operators' price lists distinguish between these destinations, as well as the direction of travel. For a hotel quote, provide the address, even if you already know the airport transfer price.

Before flying with DBV, ask your provider to schedule your pickup based on the border and your desired arrival time. Check all passengers' documents according to the current entry regulations for the countries en route. Also, confirm what the price includes for extended border controls.

Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and a trip to northern Montenegro

For destinations like Tirana , Shkodër , or Trebinje , agree on the exact address, transit countries, and provider of the entire service. Ask if you're sharing a car to your destination and if the price includes waiting at the border.

Also check your documents when booking your return journey.

It's also worth checking the route if both ends of the journey are in Montenegro. Red Taxi Podgorica's price list includes options to Gusinje and Plavu via Albania . If you don't plan to cross the border, please specify this when ordering and confirm the route of your trip.

Return and cancel transfer

Treat the return journey as a second leg of your booking: with the date, time, address, price, and contractor. The possibility of international delivery does not necessarily mean that the same company will accept the return order. Book and confirm both legs.

When prepaying, check the cancellation deadline, deductions, and time change policy. Distinguish between passenger cancellations and situations where the operator doesn't fulfill the order. Keep the terms and conditions you agreed to during purchase.

Taxi tour in Montenegro - how to order a car with a driver?

Book your tour car based on your route and available time. The price for your ride to the attraction does not include the cost of waiting during the tour and return.

Kotor, Perast, Lovćen and Cetinje - arrange stops

For a tour that includes Kotor , Perast , Lovćen , Njeguši , or Cetinje , list the planned stops and approximate times at each location. Ask if the driver will wait or come pick you up again. Also, agree on a pickup location after the tour.

Montenegro Travel, the national tourist organization, describes panoramic routes. From this plan, select the places you want to see and then ask the tour operator to assess the time and feasibility of the trip. If you want to combine sightseeing with airport transfers, please submit the entire route when booking.

Ostrog, Lake Skadar and Durmitor - plan your return trip as well

For trips to Ostrog , Lake Skadar , or the Durmitor region, please provide a specific destination. The name of the region isn't sufficient to estimate transportation costs to the entrance, marina, or trailhead. If you'll be spending part of the day away from your car, agree on a time and method of contact before disembarking.

For a cruise, walking tour, or longer meal, check the waiting time. Ask for a rate for exceeding the agreed-upon time. Determine whether parking and entrance fees are paid separately.

Driver and Guide - What Coverage Are You Buying?

When booking, please confirm whether you're ordering transportation with stops or a guided tour. If you'd like the tour to be in a specific language, please specify this in your request. Speaking with the driver does not replace the tour service you've booked.

For a full-day tour, request a quote that includes start and end times, the program, and stops. Transfers to attractions with a two-hour pickup and a full-day car rental have different costs. The quote should also include the cost of extending the tour and program changes.

Ferry, tunnels and roads – what affects taxi journey times?

The route influences fees and travel arrangements. When booking a transfer, ask if the price includes the planned ferry, tunnel, and toll road.

Kamenari–Lepetane Ferry - Operator, Price and Schedule

The Kamenari–Lepetane crossing is operated by JP Morsko dobro . The published price list shows a small car at €4 in the off-season and €5 in the high season , and a passenger van at €7.50 . Pedestrians travel free of charge.

The Kamenari–Lepetane ferry ticket and the taxi transfer price are separate items and must be agreed upon. The crossing price list specifies the fee based on vehicle category; the provider should indicate whether it is included in their offer. Please inquire separately about waiting times if the journey is billed according to a tariff.

The winter timetable covers the period 12/10/2026–02/ 05/2027. From 06:00 to midnight, departures are every 20 minutes , and less frequent at night: from Kamenari on the hour, from Lepetane at half past. For very early transfers, check the timetable before booking.

Sozina tunnel and the Smokovac–Mateševo highway

Monteput publishes tolls for the Sozina Tunnel and the Smokovac–Mateševo motorway. For category II, it states €2.50 and €3.50, respectively, for the entire indicated motorway section.

The fare category depends on the vehicle's parameters. The price list differentiates between height, number of axles, and permissible weight, so the passenger fare shouldn't automatically apply to every van. For a fixed transfer price, ask for confirmation that it includes the selected route and tolls.

Adriatic trunk line M-1 and the Kotor–Njeguši–Cetinje road

The M-1 Adriatic Highway is a main road, not a highway. Government documentation describes it as the Jadranska magistrala , which runs along the coast. Don't plan your travel time based on the assumption that you'll cover coastal sections in highway conditions.

For the Kotor–Njeguši–Cetinje route, specify whether your destination is sightseeing or a scheduled arrival. Add the time for any stops you and your driver agree upon to your sightseeing itinerary. Upon departure, request a route and pickup time that matches your airport pickup time.

When should you choose a bus, train or car rental instead of a taxi?

Compare door-to-door costs for all travelers. In addition to the public transport price, add the cost of transportation to the station, any luggage, and the journey from the final stop to the accommodation.

ŽPCG — railway and Aerodrom stop

ŽPCG provides an official search engine for train connections, including the Aerodrom stop. Select your departure and arrival station, and travel date. Add your transfer time and arrival time to your plan.

Compare trains with taxis throughout your entire journey. If the train doesn't arrive at your destination, check the cost and time of the next leg. If you have limited time before departure, also consider the possibility of re-routing after a delay.

BusTicket4.me and Traveling.com, formerly GetByBus - bus tickets

You can check bus connections at sites like BusTicket4.me and Traveling.com . The latter service previously operated as GetByBus ; the rebranding was confirmed by the Travelier group, and the former address redirects to the new service. The older GetByBus command may therefore lead to a page with a different name.

Select the appropriate city and day, then read the carrier name, departure point, and ticket terms. Don't confuse the city-name stop with the airport terminal. For each segment, check the exact departure and arrival stops.

Moovit provides information about public transport in Podgorica . Use it to check routes and stops, and verify important connections with the operator. Before traveling to the airport, check departure and arrival times with the carrier.

When renting a car, compare rental prices, insurance, fuel, parking, and border crossings. On the taxi side, add up all the necessary fares, including airport transfers. This calculation also includes excursions, beach returns, and final transfers for departure.

How to calculate the cost for a family or group?

Divide the car price by the number of passengers only after confirming that everyone and their luggage will fit in the selected car. A sample price of €60 per car translates to €15 per person for 4 passengers .

This is an example cost calculation, not a separate fare. On the bus side, calculate tickets for the same passengers and any additional journeys. Also compare transfer times, available service times, and the distance of the final stop from the accommodation. This way, you can compare the cost and time of the entire trip from the accommodation to the destination.
