Taxi for women in Poland - how does it work, who offers it and where did the idea come from?
Want to book a taxi driven by a woman? Searching for "women's taxis" will find both special categories in apps and local companies offering rides with female drivers.
However, the rules differ: who can get in the car, how to book a ride, and when the service is available. The concept itself has a longer history in Poland than the launches of major platforms suggest.
Taxi for women – what does this service actually mean?
Simply put, a women's taxi is an offer designed specifically for female passengers. In some services, it involves a woman driving and accepting only women passengers.
In others, you can book a female driver, but men can also travel in the car. This distinction is important from the very first booking.
If you're returning alone from an evening meeting, the most important thing for you may be the ability to choose your driver. If you're traveling to the airport with your partner or son, the question arises as to whether the terms and conditions of the service allow you to travel together. A similar offer name doesn't necessarily mean identical terms and conditions.
It is therefore worth distinguishing three models:
Women driving women – the service connects female passengers with female drivers and determines who can take a ride.
Taxi with a female driver - you can choose a female driver, but the offer does not have to be limited to female passengers.
Female-friendly service – the carrier offers certain amenities or service policies, but does not necessarily provide a female driver.
For a female passenger, the answer to a specific question is more important than the category name: will a woman actually come on this trip?
It is also worth determining whether you can book your ride in advance.

Before comparing the individual offerings, let's take a look at their origins. The history of women's taxis in Poland encompasses both passenger safety initiatives and small businesses founded by women.
Where did women's taxis come from in Poland?
Back in 2004, the Trojmiasto.pl website reported on the announcement of the "Safe Taxis for Women" initiative . Its objectives included, among other things, nighttime rides and the driver ensuring that a passenger made it to the door.
This did not mean, however, that only women were to drive cars.
Another trail leads to Poznań. In March 2010, a local website presented a project for a corporation with women behind the wheel .
It assumed training and professional activation of unemployed women, and transport was also to be available to men.
The preserved publication confirms the announcement, but does not determine whether the activity was actually launched.
Lejdis TAXI and Babska Taksa - local history before the apps
A more well-documented example is Lejdis TAXI from Cieszyn , owned by Wioletta Heglasz. An article published in 2016 describes it as having been operating since 2014.
Its existence is also confirmed by the city's "Wiadomości Ratuszowe" from January 2015. This is an example of female entrepreneurship in the taxi industry, although sources do not confirm that transport is limited to female passengers.
In August 2015, local media reported on Lejdis Taxi in Brzeg , with Dorota and Justyna behind the wheel. The cars' distinctive feature was a pink rooster. The similarity of the name to the Cieszyn-based company doesn't justify considering the two initiatives as a single network.
The Radomsko press from March 2016 also featured Paulina's "Baby Taxi" from Radomsko . Women's taxi brands, therefore, also flourished outside the largest cities. These archival examples document the market's history, not the current availability of rides.
Which company was first? Available evidence doesn't allow us to pinpoint a single undisputed pioneer of the women-only service. However, it does show that initiatives aimed at female passengers and local female taxi companies preceded the launch of corresponding categories in major apps.
Uber, Bolt and FREENOW - taxi apps for women
The app focuses on the specific ride category. Ordering a regular car doesn't mean choosing a driver.
Uber by Women
Uber by Women connects female passengers with female drivers. Uber's official category list includes Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, and Lublin . You can check availability for your pickup location when ordering.
After entering your destination, you select the appropriate category. Uber by Women's policy excludes men, including those traveling with women, and children traveling alone.
Uber also describes a separate feature: the ability for drivers to set preferences for accepting female passengers.
As Uber's Women's Program demonstrates , its reach is broader than the category chosen by female passengers. Therefore, the two solutions should not be confused.
Bolt "Women for Women"
Bolt also offers a category where women carry passengers. The official Bolt category guide lists its coverage as select cities and availability as 24/7, subject to driver availability .
This caveat has practical implications. A category might operate in a city, but at a specific time there might not be a car available nearby.
Please check the expected waiting time before leaving.
When traveling with a child or in a mixed group, don't automatically transfer the rules of another app to Bolt. Clarify the conditions of such a trip with the platform's support staff.
FREENOW "For Her" - Early Pilot
In March 2022, FREENOW launched a pilot program in the Tricity area called "For Her," connecting female passengers with female drivers. The publication announcing the service's launch also highlighted the potential for longer waits for a car.
Current availability of this category should be confirmed in the app or with the operator. The announcement remains part of women's ride history, but it doesn't confirm that the offer will continue to operate under the same terms.
Smaller businesses and local services with a woman behind the wheel
Local offers may involve contacting a dispatcher, requesting a specific driver, or booking directly with a self-employed person. For these services, it's particularly helpful to discuss the departure time and group composition.
Lady Taxi at Pro Taxi Kołobrzeg
Lady Taxi at Pro Taxi Kołobrzeg is described by the operator as the option of ordering a taxi driven by a woman, especially for female passengers traveling alone or with children.
The offer was published in August 2025 and updated in October of the same year.
The company claims to accept orders by phone, app, and online, and offers 24/7 service availability. However, it doesn't explicitly present it as a women-only service.
When booking, it is worth confirming the driver's availability for the specified time and the ability to transport all members of the group.
Lady Nord in Kołobrzeg
A separate initiative is Lady Nord . In a June 2025 publication, the corporation's owner explained that simply requesting the Lady option from the dispatcher is sufficient.
The same material noted that the vast majority of female drivers did not work at night.
This clearly illustrates the difference between a company's operating hours and the availability of a specific part of its offerings. Current travel hours should be specified when ordering.
Monia Drives Taxi - Warsaw and surrounding areas
An individual initiative is the pink taxi of Monika Ziółkowska, known as Monia Jeździ Taxi . In a September 2025 interview, the driver recounted that she also transported men during the day, but stopped driving after dark due to her own experiences.
A later publication about her activities in Warsaw and surrounding towns presented the offer as exclusively for women. The materials don't clarify whether the rules have changed. Before booking, it's best to inquire directly about the current range of services.
How to order a taxi driven by a woman?
First, determine what you need: a female driver, a women-only ride, or additional amenities such as a car seat or pickup at a set time.

Does a taxi for women cost more and operate 24/7?
There is no single price list for all female taxi services. Prices vary depending on the operator and the method of billing.
According to the Uber for Women program , Uber by Women costs the same as UberX, with no additional fee for selecting this category . You can check the specific price before ordering.
For other offers, compare the price shown in the app or ask the carrier for the settlement method.
For hourly reservations, also ask about waiting and cancellation fees.
The same applies to operating hours. 24/7 order acceptance, app category functionality, and driver availability for a specific trip are all separate issues. If returning late at night, it's worth checking all three in advance.
Comfort and safety – what to check before traveling?
The ability to choose your driver may be important to you due to personal preference, previous experience, or greater freedom when traveling.
However, the gender of the driver does not replace other safety features. Before getting in, check that the license plate number and driver's details match your order. It's also important to know how to contact the staff.

Frequently asked questions about taxis for women
Can a man ride with a female passenger?
This depends on the service. The previously described Uber by Women policy also excludes men when they are accompanied by a woman. Local offers that involve hiring a female driver may have different terms and conditions. Please specify your group size before booking.
Can I go with my son?
Check with the operator, specifying the child's age. The general term "female rides" doesn't clarify the rules regarding boys traveling with their mothers. Don't assume either automatic consent or prohibition.
Can I order such a ride for my mother or a friend?
Check if the operator allows the reservation to be made for another person. Provide the passenger with the correct pickup location and contact information, as per the carrier's procedures. Also, make sure she will be able to recognize the car she has booked.
Can a child travel alone with the driver?
This isn't simply because the car is driven by a woman. Uber by Women excludes children traveling alone. Other carriers require separate rules for such a ride. The female category doesn't imply childcare services.
Does the taxi for women have a seat?
